Peak District

Peak District National Park in the UK
June 3, 2006

Here I am at the top of a hill in the Peak District.

How did I get there? First, I had a big meal which included steak and kidney pudding, chips, and boiled veg at the pub of The George inn (first licensed in 1743).

After lunch, my friend and I climbed to see Peveril Castle. Here is a view from the castle.

Here is a piece of the castle.

Looking out into the village of Castleton.

A view down into a valley.

A model of what Peveril Castle use to look like.

A view from a latrine in the castle.

One more look of the rugged scenery.

Afterwards, we decided to climb a steep hill. On our way we passed by lambs.

Here is a view from the bottom of the hill. The lone tree standing in the middle reminded me of Six Feet Under.

After climbing halfway up, I took a break underneath that tree. Lying back, I stared into the sky.

Here's a view from the top.

We then went to Speedwell Cavern, an underground cave system in the heart of the Peak District.

In that visit, there was an underground boat journey that took us to ...

... this cave.

Afterwards, we went and admired the entrance way to Devil's Arse, which is another cave system nearby.
